Hi there! 👋 I’m Katherine — a seasoned and passionate design leader, currently directing product design @ Mighty Networks.
It’s nice to meet you
I've been designing and advocating for experience design at Bay Area startups for over a decade 👵🏻 Starting with my bachelors degree in Human-Computer Interaction, I got into product design early, and have been in this space for my entire career.
These days, I call myself an experience designer ✨ because to me this job is about designing the full experience someone has when they interact with my work, not just any one part of the process. So while I do spend time in Figma designing screens that can be showcased to many oohs and ahhs, my favorite part of the work is behind the scenes 🫣
It’s in designing complicated workflows that are intended to go unseen, creating processes to help product teams communicate, participating in the definition of company strategy, and subtly building culture that allows people to thrive. This job is about bringing order to the chaos, beauty to the mundane, and a voice to the unspoken.
And it’s in this messy tangle of intangible problems that I believe experience design can change the world 🌸
Check out my work
For the past nine years I’ve been building and leading the design organization at Mighty Networks — a platform that allows anyone to run community, courses, memberships, and more all in one place. Take a look at some of my favorite projects here.
First App Experience
For years the experience of downloading the Mighty Networks app was crusty and abandoned. It languished as a P2 project, forever deemed not worth our time to update. Here I explore the value of making a killer first impression.
Introducing AI
When it became clear in early 2023 that AI was changing the tech industry, we held a hackathon to ensure Mighty was using this awesome technology to our advantage, and ultimately released a powerful set of AI features.
I’m always on the lookout for my next great adventure.
Please reach out any time if you want to learn more, or just want to chat design! In particular, these days I am super interested in AR, climate tech, and electric/self driving vehicles, but tell me — what are you up to? 🧐
